Shotgun sequencing is an advanced laboratory technique used to analyse the DNA of all microorganisms present in a sample, such as stool. Unlike targeted tests that look only for selected microbes, shotgun sequencing can identify thousands of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microorganisms, providing a much more comprehensive picture of the gut microbiome.
